G/Flex Flexible Epoxy

Product Description

G/flex from West Systems is a tough but flexible epoxy resin system that, unlike conventional epoxy resins, can be used to bond plastics. This makes it suitable for installing the plastic rims of rubber deck hatches used in some wooden kayaks such as the stitch-and-glue Petrel, as well as many other applications.

The epoxy adhesive is prethickened and mixes at a 1:1 ratio for convenience. It is ideal for permanent waterproof bonding of dissimilar materials including plastic, fibreglass, ceramics, metals and even damp woods. It bonds to HDPE, LDPE, ABS, PVC and polycarbonate plastic.

G/flex is more flexible than standard epoxy resin and polyester resin, but is much stiffer than adhesive sealants. Its flexibility makes it suitable for making structural bonds that can absorb stress caused by expansion, contraction, shock and vibration without cracking.

This epoxy repair kit contains enough g/flex epoxy to install plastic hatch rims, bond carbon fibre deck fittings and repair small cracks and scratches. The kit contains:

  • 250 ml of pre-thickened G/flex epoxy adhesive
  • Protective gloves
  • Mixing palettes
  • Mixing sticks
  • Alcohol cleaning pads
  • Detailed instructions on mixing, gluing and repairing cracks and scratches

This g/flex epoxy resin has a pot life of 45 minutes when mixed and a working time of 75 minutes. It reaches its initial cure in 3-4 hours at 21°C and full cure in 24 hours. A joint should not be subjected to any loads until the epoxy has reached full cure.
